BSH emerge Gangpur Gold Cup champions

Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel (BSH) emerged champions in the 1st Gangpur Gold Cup Men’s Hockey Tournament, beating local favourites SAIL Hockey Academy (SHA) 1-0 in the final at the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium here today.
The all-important goal was scored by Kunjan Toppo in the eight minutes and after that both teams got locked in a fierce battle and made several unsuccessful attempts for goal. East Coast Railway (ECoR) finished third, beating Rourkela-based Panposh Sports Hostel (PSH) 4-1 in another match of the day.
Subash Toppo, Minil Toppo, Jonal Kerketta and Joesph Toppo shared one each goal for ECoR, while Manoj Kindo score the consolation goal for PSH.
Incidentally, all the players of winning BSH team originally belonged to Centre of Excellence of PSH and were shifted to Bhubaneswar four months back, while the PSH played with junior players. Arbind Barla of BSH and Jonal Kerketta of ECoR were given man of the match awards. Ashok Lakra of SHA walked away with the best player of the tournament award.
Earlier in the semifinals, BSH handed out a 4-1 defeat to ECoR, while SHA defeated PSH 2-1. Joseph Toppo of ECoR and Roshan Xalxo of PSH were named for man of the match awards. The tournament was organised by Hockey Gangpur-Odisha.
Hockey Olympian William Xalxo presented the awards in the presence of hockey Olympians Michael Kindo and Lazrus Barla. The champion team received cash award of Rs1 lakh and runners-up team
got Rs.50,000. The third placed ECoR received Rs 25,000 and the PSH took home Rs10,000 for securing fourth place.
